INTRODUCTION

In April 2019, Oatly AB (Oatly), a Sweden-based vegan food brand which produced alternative dairy products from oats , opened a US$ 15 million processing plant in New Jersey, US, to increase its production capability in order to meet the rising demand for its products in the US. The factory, its first outside Europe, had the capacity to produce about 750,000 gallons of oat base per month.

Oatly was founded in 1994 in Malmö, Sweden, by a food scientist Richard Öste (Öste). The company was widely thought to be an innovation disruptor in the dairy industry. It was also considered to be one of the top 10 companies in Fast Company’s list of ‘The World’s 50 Most Innovative Companies of 2019’. ..
